What Should you be Looking Out for in 2010?
What Should you be Looking Out for in 2010?
Examples of important forthcoming legislation:
- Spring 2010 – Fit notes, rather than sick notes are to be introduced by the Social Security (Medical Evidence) and Statutory Sick Pay (Medical Evidence) Amendment Regulations 2010.
- Pre-Election 2010 – The Financial Services Bill is expected to be enacted prior to the forthcoming election, which must take place on or before 3 June 2010, barring exceptional circumstances. If enacted, the Bill will allow for greater regulation of pay and benefits in the financial sector and promote effective and responsible risk management and compliance.
- October 2010 – The Equality Bill is expected to come into force in October 2010. In email update 49, we discussed the draft Equality Bill. You can access email update 49 by clicking on the following link:

The Equality Bill (which is not yet in its final form) is intended to bring together and harmonise the present anti-discrimination laws in a single Act and strengthen some of the existing anti-discrimination laws. Your employment law practices, policies and procedures should be reviewed to ensure they are compliant pre October 2010.
As there were in 2009 it is also likely that there will be a number of important Court and Tribunal Judgements in the employment law sphere. We will keep you informed of the key changes in employment law that impact on you and your business in 2010.
We, at Just Employment Law, would like to take this opportunity to wish you the very best for 2010.
Happy New Year
