Today marks the beginning of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month.

As a firm, we’re proud to support our charity partners, Pancreatic Cancer Action Scotland. The charity is dedicated to the people of Scotland whose lives have been touched by pancreatic cancer and associated tumours. Their mission is to improve survival rates of pancreatic cancer by ensuring more people are diagnosed early and that everyone has access to effective treatments, support, information and care.

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year survival rate of any of the 22 common cancers, with only approximately 10% of patients being diagnosed at an early stage and in time for life-saving surgery. Raising awareness of the disease and the common symptoms is therefore hugely important for early diagnosis.

Some of the main symptoms include:

  • Jaundice
  • Upper abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Mid back pain or discomfort
  • Pale and smelly stools
  • Loss of appetite
  • Indigestion
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • New onset diabetes
  • Fatigue
  • Change in bowel habit
  • Unexplained weight loss

If you or a loved one regularly experience one or more of these symptoms which are not normal for you, do not ignore them, contact your GP straight away.
