On 6 April 2012, the Government increased the qualifying period for unfair dismissal from one to two years.

Employment law time off work

It is now two years since the qualification period for unfair dismissal was increased from one year to two years. Therefore, the transitional period during which some employees had their unfair dismissal rights after one year but others did not, has now come to an end. It is now the case that only employees who currently have two years’ continuous employment or more will have the right to pursue an ordinary unfair dismissal claim.
