On 1 October 2015 the national minimum wage (NMW) rates increased across the UK.
There are currently four different NMW rates:
For workers aged 21 and over, the minimum hourly rate is now £6.70.
For workers aged 18 to 20, the rate is now £5.30.
For workers aged 16 to 17, the rate is now £3.87.
For apprentices under 19 or in the first year of the apprenticeship (at any age), the minimum hourly rate is now £3.30. For apprentices aged 19 or over and in the second year of the apprenticeship, refer to the age-related rates above.
Employers should also bear in mind that from 1 April 2016 a fifth rate of NMW, known as the ‘national living wage’, will come into force for workers aged 25 or over. From that date the minimum hourly rate for those workers will be £7.20.
