As you may be aware, the General Data Protection Regulation comes into force in the UK on 25 May 2018. GDPR brings with it a new regime for data protection regulation and compliance across Europe. Compliance with GDPR is primarily and predominantly a question of data protection law, rather than employment law. However, as employment law advisers, Just Employment Law recognises that much of the preparatory work in respect of GDPR may land at the feet of HR professionals.

GDPR requires businesses to look at what data is held, and the purpose for which it is held. It requires businesses to look at how information is used and distributed. It requires clarity and transparency, and ownership of data protection requirements across an organisation. It requires businesses to adopt a clearer approach to communicating information to data subjects about the data that is held about them, the purpose for which it is held, and for how long it will be held.
