In update 202 we explained that the new National Living Wage came into effect on 1 April 2016. In addition, the government announced the new rates for younger workers and apprentices, which will come into force on 1 October 2016.

Just Employment Law has learned that the government has given HMRC a further £7m to fund additional compliance checks to ensure that employers across the UK are paying the national minimum wage (NMW). Particular sectors will be targeted by HMRC compliance teams; namely social care, hairdressing and retail.

If you require any advice in relation to your obligations to pay the NMW, such as what elements of remuneration count towards NMW compliance and in what limited circumstances benefits can be offset against NMW liability, we would be pleased to assist.
