In the last day of February The House of Lords approved a series of government-proposed amendments regarding Political Affiliation Dismissals included in the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill (ERRB).

Following a decision by the European Court of Human Rights which we reported on in our previous article the House of Lords has also approved an amendment to the ERRB which provides that the unfair dismissal qualifying period will be removed where the reason (or principal reason) for dismissal ‘is, or relates to, the employee's political opinions or affiliation’. The unfairness of the dismissal in such circumstances will be judged in the normal way.
