The Employment Appeal Tribunal has confirmed that a Court of Appeal decision that there should be a 10% uplift for general damages in civil claims made after 1 April 2013 applies to discrimination claims in the Employment Tribunal.

The three bands of compensation for hurt to feelings in discrimination cases are now as follows:
Bottom Band for less serious cases: generally one-off incidents where the discriminatory act is not egregious | £600 - £6,600 |
Middle Band for serious cases that do not meet the criteria for the top band | £6,600 - £19,800 |
Top Band for the most serious cases: usually involving multiple incidents of discrimination or continuing serious acts | £19,800 - £33,000 |
