Increase to statutory payments

A number of standard rates and payments will be increasing with effect from early April 2017.

The national living wage, which applies to workers aged 25 and over, will be increasing from £7.20 to £7.50 with effect from 1 April 2017.

The following national minimum wage increases will also take effect on this date:

  • The rate for apprentices increases from £3.40 to £3.50 per hour;
  • The rate for workers aged 16 to 17 years old increases from £4.00 to £4.05 per hour;
  • The rate for 18 to 20 years old increases from £5.55 to £5.60 per hour; and
  • The rate for 21 to 24 years old increases from £6.95 to £7.05 per hour.

From 2 April 2017, rates of statutory maternity pay, statutory paternity pay, statutory adoption pay and statutory shared parental pay will increase from £139.58 to £140.98 per week (or 90 per cent of the person’s average weekly earnings, if lower).

The rate of statutory sick pay will also be increasing from £88.45 to £89.35 per week with effect from 6 April 2017.
