Recently, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published a report in response to concerns that the removal of the compulsory retirement age may result in some workers continuing to perform tasks despite their deteriorating performance making it unsafe to do so, and that this, coupled with the fact that employers may also be finding it difficult to effectively judge whether workers have the functional capacity to perform work safely, could lead to an increase in the number of major incidents or injury at work.
The report therefore aims to assess existing evidence regarding age-related changes in a worker’s performance, identify tools that can help to assess human function and performance, and consider what the findings mean in terms of the need for future work.
The full report can be found here.
